Dr. Yannick Wurm

Ant genomics and innovative bioinformatics tools

Extensive theoretical work has explained how and why complex societies evolve. However, only little is known about the genes and molecular mechanisms responsible for social phenotypes. I will first present some of our work - focusing on the characterisation of social chromosomes that regulate how societies are organised. Subsequently, I will present the bioinformatics tools we created and use to overcome challenges of genomics work with emerging model organisms.

NextGenBUG is co-ordinated and sponsored by Edinburgh Genomics, The University of Edinburgh's next generation genomics facility.
